dimensions

there is also a more semi-circular pad which is 10 x 6 x 3/8".

shoulder pad

dimensions are central for a shoulder pad of course ; i have seen a pad 9 x 5 x 5/8" ;
the pad is 3d, and girth is important...this pad describes a neat type of pad

my earlier notes on shoulder pad

i copy the notes : (

I was looking at a man wearing a shirt, a business shirt and I was looking at his shoulder line. I was thinking again of a new type of shoulder pad. Of course shoulder pads are not suitable for shirts but a type of shoulder pad for a women's shirt or blouse may be suitbale ; but the dimensions of the pad are important. I do not have knowledge of drafting for shoulder pads and at the present time, i am not sure how to go about doing illustrations...

However a neat shoulder pad can be developed perhaps based on a woman's shirt and then moving into jackets. Of course there are many different fabrics for jackets so there may be a market for certain types of shoulder pads for certain fabrics and this idea is important. It links in with creating a neat shoulder pad for a woman's blouse..or a shirt...so what kind of 'neatness' do you have in mind..my first rule is that the shoulder pad is something 'padded' but this shoulder pad would be reduced in height and certainly in width...a possible shoulder pad would begin at the shoulder neck point and then 'diverge' out in size so that the padding is in the shoulder tip area ; this is the area that you may want..So this shoulder pad would have its main aim the padding out of the shoulder tip area...it wouldn't have a uniform width and height 'over' the shoulder..and it wouldn't pad out the whole shoulder line; this is important'

This new shoulder pad thus wouldn't pad out the entire shoulder line.
I write some blog entries on clothing and I intend also to write an entry on inserting a shoulder pad..

Now the analysis of materials is important.

shoulder pad notes

What is the make-up of a shoulder pad? How should it be fitted in or sewn in? The shoulder pad gives new shape to the jacket but this shape can be amended. That is what I am trying to do with a new shoulder pad that i am thinking of designing.

I see on the site below how to make up a shoulder pad:
http://www.fittingtips.com/classes/Class-ShoulderPad.htm

On this site the size of the shoulder pad is a semi-circle and for My shoulder pad, I am wondering if this is a suitable size. My shoulder pad would have more shape as my articles say; my pad wouldn't be uniform like this semi-circular pad- but there would be appropriate width and height, maybe you can say girth (the shoulder pad is 3d) at the shoulder neck point and this would then expand or diverge out to the shoulder tip.

My shoulder pad aims to have a better fit than a typical semi-circular shoulder pad. This shoulder pad is too uniform in shape. It pads up the shoulder but my shoulder pad wouldn't be a semi-circle or there wouldn't be so much padding because as I said, I was thinking of the shoulder pad for use in shirts and this new shoulder pad would have less padding mainly 1) because it would diverge out ; it would start at the shoulder neck but there would be minimal padding here and then the padding would 'develop' and then the padding would have a suitable size at all points of the shoulder line. How the shoulder pad gains width and height and size at different levels along the shoulder line is important.

Again I return to the purpose of the pad. It is to 1) give padding but 2) there would be more shape to the pad..and thus suitable materials are important...The materials such as fusuble fleece may be suitable but my pad, i think, would be covered; maybe fusible fleece is too thick a material..

Instead then of my pad being semi-circular , it would have lines diverging out on both sides of the shoulder lines. The distance from the shoulder line may be an important variable. And at the shoulder tip, there would be the maximum distance and then at the shoulder neck point, minimal distance.

Some type of contoured shoulder pad is the best..maybe
